We hope everyone had a safe and exciting 4th of July in Bartlett, IL, and the surrounding suburbs!

As we enter the hot summer months for lawncare, we want to inform clients how LawnLogIQ manages this challenging time for your lawn:
We will continue to visit your property approximately every three weeks throughout the summer to scout and visually inspect your lawn.
If your lawn shows signs of heat stress or dormancy, we will refrain from applying fertilizer, as this could place unnecessary stress on your lawn while it strives to survive the heat. Additionally, we do not use fertilizers marketed as "summer stress" or "stress blends," since their claims lack scientific support and are often based on marketing hype. Your soil test results have likely indicated that specific nutrients are not deficient at this time.
If you regularly irrigate your lawn and/or if Mother Nature provides adequate rain, we will continue to apply a light dose of an appropriate fertilizer, especially if the forecast is favorable for rain or cooler weather.
After three weeks, we will again scout your property and make any necessary adjustments until the weather typically begins to cool down in late August. At that point, we will resume our regular fertilizer schedule until the first hard frost.
Here are a few additional summer tips for ensuring your lawn's success:
1. Mow slightly higher: Raise your mower by one to two notches during the hot summer months to keep your lawn at about 4 inches.
2. Mow only when necessary: Only mow when your grass is actively growing. Mowing a dry lawn can damage the crowns of the grass, which may lead to its death. If you use a service, ask them to skip mowing for the week—this will save you money too!
3. Have a watering plan: Choose between fully irrigating your lawn (1 to 1.5 inches of water per week, including rainfall) throughout the summer or allowing it to go dormant. Avoid watering just because the lawn looks dry; have a clear plan. If you water to bring your lawn out of dormancy and it then tends to enter dormancy again, it puts significant stress on the grass and can lead to various issues. However, if we experience an extended dry spell (e.g., hot and dry for two weeks straight), we recommend watering to moisten the grass crowns to prevent them from dying.
4. Watch for fungus: If you continue to irrigate throughout the summer, or if we have a wet season, be vigilant for fungus. Hot, humid weather combined with moist soil can lead to fungal issues. If you notice brown, red, black, or spotted blades of grass or patches that appear suddenly, please contact us immediately. Fungus requires specific applications of fungicide to be controlled effectively, and if you wait too long, it can damage your entire lawn. During our 3-week visits, we will inspect your property for potential fungal issues.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. We're here to help you enjoy your beautiful lawn throughout the summer months!
Best regards,
Paul
